Salvation

There can be nothing more important in your life than the salvation that Jesus Christ offers. The desire to bring everyone to Christ motivates all that we do at Good Hope Baptist Church. So we ask you: Are you sure of your salvation? That when you die, you will be joining Jesus in Heaven?

If you aren’t sure, we would love to talk with you about this. We also offer you below a brief explanation of salvation as described in the book of Romans.

God’s Simple Plan of Salvation

As it is written, ‘There is none righteous, no, not one.’ (Romans 3:10, KJV)

The apostle Paul declares that no human being is “righteous,” or right with God.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23, KJV)

The emphasis is on ALL. Someone might think he is a good person, especially compared to others around him. But Paul points out that the standard is God Himself. By the standard of God’s holiness, all of us fall short.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23, KJV)

Since we are all sinners who fall short of God’s glory, Paul explains that what that earns us is death – both physical death and spiritual death.

In physical death, your soul separates from your body. In spiritual death, your soul is separated from God. That separation from God lasts for all eternity for those who die in a lost and sinful state.

Because of our sin, every one of us faces the reality and inevitability of both physical death and eternal separation from God. But there is good news: the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8, KJV)

This tells us that God doesn’t just leave us in our sinful state, facing physical and spiritual death. God demonstrated and love to us even when we didn’t deserve it. Even when we were deep in sin, Christ died for us.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13, KJV)

Even though we all fall short of God’s glory and face both physical and spiritual death, God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to die for us. Thus anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you are ready to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, bow your head and pray from your heart. Here is a sample prayer as a guide:

Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin, and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control. In Your precious name, Amen
